My Extensions wanted to update their website and promo materials with a new campaign for their latest product lines. We set out to shoot photos and video over the course of 2 days in the Chicago studio.
Working on a shoot like this can be very challenging and very rewarding. The planning takes some time, and getting a studio full of hair stylists, make-up artists, models, videographers, assistants and more - in one studio moving in the same direction takes concentration and focus. After speaking with the team over at Myextensionz I knew what we needed to create, a clean set of photos with matching video that could be used for promotion as well as product.
The lighting setup was pretty straight forward, I went barebulb on the flash for really crisp shadows and highlights, with a reflector to bounce a little catchlight back into the eyes. I actually had to stand up on an apple box for some of the models. This setup was also fairly easy to duplicate with daylight balanced constant lights used in the video. Also, can't forget the fan! Needed to give the hair a little life and movement.

The video portion was meant to have a fun and light feeling, so we kept the fans blowing and wanted the girls to move, we wanted to keep the right balance of movement while having a clear focus of showing off the hair. I shot long , medium and close shots for the source material then edited the video using photoshop and found the perfect song to match the vibe here - Statia by Gurdonark
